최근에 받은 PR-1 Customer feedback 입니다.
저는 스피커를 24시간 동안 쉴새 없이 2주정도 번인시디를 이용해서 번인을 했으며. 기존의 Osborn Epitomes 스피커에 비해서 저의 가로 세로 6M x4 M 룸 환경에 잘 어울립니다. Osborn Epitomes 스피커의 경우 설치가 매우 까다로워서 위치할수 있는 곳이 한정되어 있었습니다. 처음 WHT PR-1 스피커를 받았을때에는 굉장히 평면적인 소리가 나고 고역과 저역의 확장이 필요한듯 느꼈습니다. 집을 방문한 다른 친구들의 의견도 같았습니다. 스피커를 뒷벽에서 1.3m 옆벽에서 90cm정도를 띄우고 토우인을 주자 청취위치 부분에서 음장이 모아지는등 엄청난 향상이 있었지만 아직도 고역과 저역의 아쉬움이 있었습니다. 원인은 CD player와 Audio Aero Capitole MKII를 13E1 진공관 모노 블럭에 직결로 연결했었기 때문이였습니다.
Supratek Cabernet Dual 프리를 수령하고 모든게 바뀌였는데 고역은 아주 맑고 중역대는 아주 꽉차며 깊은 저역을 얻을수 있었습니다. 어떻게 8" 우퍼에서 단단하고 탄력있으면서도 제어된 저역이 나오는지 믿기지가 않았습니다. 지금 현재 네트웍 튜닝된 2.7옴 저항을 변경할 필요가 전혀 없어 보였으며 (역주: 스피커 내부에 필요에 따라서 저항을 조절할수 있는 여분의 저항이 있습니다. 기본값 2.7옴, 하지만 유닛의 계량으로 현재는 저항이 없이 직결된 제품이 나옵니다.) 필요한 것은 좋은 프리앰프 었습니다. 현재 아침 9시부터 밤 8시까지 음악을 들으면서 느끼는 것은 HiFi 사운드가 아닌 진정한 음악이 스피커에서 나오며 제방에서는 서브우퍼의 필요성은 못느끼겠습니다. 스피커는 정말 빛나며 제 시스템이 나타내고자 하는 소리를 충실히 잘 내어주고 있습니다.
Osborn Epitomes 스피커와는 달리 PR-1 스피커는 주변 환경과 잘 어울어져서 WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) 가 높으며 크기가 아담해서 방에 있다는것을 잊어버릴 정도입니다. 피아노 마감이 다른 기계들과 잘 어울리고 Jarrah 나무 커브가 다른 스피커와 차별화 되는 멋인것 같습니다.

Well I had these speakers for around 2 weeks now. During this time they have been burning-in pretty much 24/7, with a combination of a low frequency test tone CD by day and music by night. The speakers are quite room friendly in my 6 meter by 4 meter room than my previous Osborn Epitomes. The Osborn’s use to dominate the room and provided little or no flexibility when it came to speaker positioning. When I first received the WHT speakers, they sounded pretty flat and thought they needed a little more top end extension and little bit more on the bottom end. I had a couple of friends come over who also commented to this effect, but in the end managed to get pretty good imaging by moving the speakers 1.3 meters into the room and about 90 cm from the side walls. Also they toed-in the speakers, so the image converged just behind my head in the listening position, which is about 1.4 meters away from the back wall. Still, even though the imaging and soundstage improved dramatically, the top end still lacked that top end extension and bass seemed a little weak. Note, during this time my Supratek Cabernet Dual had still yet to arrive, so I was running the CD Player (Audio Aero Capitole MKII) direct into the 13E1 SET based mono blocks.
Last Thursday, the Pre-Amp arrived and boy what a difference! All of a sudden that top end was crystal clear, the mid-range had plenty of body and importantly, the deep bass had finally appeared. In fact, it’s surprising an 8” woofer can deliver so much bass that has impact as well as tautness, which makes it very controlled. Thus, I think there is no need to replace the current 2.7 ohm resistor to a lower value. All the system needed was a good pre-amp to make the PR-1’s really sing. As a testimony, I’ve been listening to music all day today from 9:00 in the morning, to now (8:00 pm). Let me repeat, I’m listening to REAL MUSIC, not Hi-Fi, thus don’t think I’ll require a sub-woofer any more, at least in this room.
Well done Mark, these speakers really shine and basically convey everything that the rest of my system has to offer.
One more thing, this speaker has the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) as they don’t dominate the room as the Osborns used to do in the past. The black piano gloss goes very well with all my other Hi-Fi components. You don’t really notice they’re in the room because of the slim design. The Jarrah scope adds a nice touch and makes the speakers very distinctive compared to anything else I’ve seen.
